Simcenter Battery Development Experience

Siemens Digital Industries Software drives innovation in next‑generation battery development through its Simcenter portfolio. Battery engineering is inherently complex and brings together electrical, thermal and structural expertise into one multiphysics approach. Simcenter solutions integrate simulation, testing, MBSE and AI to help engineering teams increase productivity and develop safer and more efficient batteries.

Over the past years, we developed several mixed reality applications for Siemens, presented at events such as Hannover Messe and the Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart. One of these mixed reality applications was specifically focused on demonstrating the use of Amesim for battery.

For this project, our client wanted an online experience that could extend these mixed reality applications into an engaging digital asset that makes battery design tangible, interactive and easy to explore for a global audience.

After a couple of brainstorm sessions, we developed a concept that we then presented to the customer through interactive designs. After approval, development was started using Craft CMS and a fully integrated Unity application to allow users to engage with the SimRod car.

Users can rotate and explore the SimRod 3D model freely on their screens. Clickpoints across the vehicle highlight specific components related to battery engineering. Once activated, these components appear in a wireframe representation and provide visitors with additional information, short videos from Siemens experts and customer insights related to each topic.

This interactive flow functions as a virtual tour that guides users through battery development and illustrates the Simcenter solutions, similar to the immersive mixed reality applications we made for events, but here making them accessible to anyone with a browser.

To enhance the experience further, we also added an Augmented Reality (AR) model viewer. With one tap, visitors can project the 3D SimRod car into their environment, allowing them to walk around it, explore details up close and interact with the model in a natural and intuitive way.

The online experience provides Siemens with a powerful and accessible way to showcase its multiphysics approach to battery development. By combining an interactive 3D model, expert content and AR capabilities, the experience offers a clear and engaging narrative for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Because the asset is available from anywhere, it reaches a broad global audience of potential customers, partners and internal teams without the limitations of physical events. Siemens now has a scalable online extension of their mixed reality storytelling, bringing the complexity of battery engineering to life in a clear and compelling way.
